Pennsylvania will lower state flags in honor of Pittsburgh Steelers chairman Dan Rooney, who died Thursday at age 84. Mr. Rooney is one of the most respected and influential leaders in the history of the NFL. "Michelle and I offer our condolences to the Rooney family, some of the most gracious and thoughtful people we know - even as we celebrate the life of Dan Rooney: a championship-caliber good man".

Rooney's father, Art, purchased the Steelers in 1933 and the family has run the team since that time.

The new carrier is so strikingly similar to the Liaoning aircraft carrier that many are calling it the Liaoning upgrade. China has also been sending ships and submarines deep into the Indian and Pacific Oceans in recent years.

Rooney is survived by his wife Patricia and seven of their nine children. That includes what became known as the "Rooney Rule", a league rule that requires teams to interview at least one minority candidate for open Head Coach and GM positions, that he was credited with spearheading.

In said statement, the Chargers emphasized the sheer magnitude of Rooney's positive impact on the Steelers, the city of Pittsburgh and the league itself. The Steelers official Twitter account announced the news Thursday afternoon, that Rooney passed away. Mr Rooney also prepared the way for the Obama visit to Ireland.
