Star Wars Fans Celebrate May the Fourth (Be With You)

According to Lucasfilm and CNN, the reason Star Wars day came to be was the phrase was first used on May 4, 1979, the day Margaret Thatcher took office as United Kingdom prime minister.

Devotees of George Lucas' movie series have been paying homage to the franchise, sharing memories and GIFs.

Some fans even boldly suggested that Thursday's widely anticipated announcement from Buckingham Palace was Star Wars-related.

On Star Wars Day- May the fourth- Dartmouth might have earned their nickname of "The Dark Side". A few ways in which fans observe the day include hosting movie marathons, sharing greetings on social media and cooking "Star Wars" recipes. This year fans in Taiwan's capital Taipei posed in costumes at city landmarks while supertree structures in Singapore were transformed into lightsabers.

In recent years, this nearly sacred day in Star Wars fandom has been commemorated in a variety of ways.
