Entertainer Nick Cannon posted a social media tribute to Monique Clark, a 35-year-old woman killed in a mass shooting in University City Sunday. None of the victims' names have been made public.

"When we looked over the balcony, he was just sitting down with a gun on his lap", Galiendes said.

A man who witnessed the deadly shooting tells PEOPLE that he had just spoken with one of the victims before she was fatally shot by the gunman. Selis' family said his girlfriend had recently broken up and he had been "distraught and depressed" over it, but there was no indication he was capable of carrying out such an act of violence. The second caller described hearing five to six gunshots and seeing someone outside with a gun.

He says she's "traumatized by what occurred".

It is being said that the suspect was a resident of the same apartment complex in which the shooting took place.

"The victims were targeted for no other reason than their mere presence in the vicinity of the suspect", she said.

His motive is not known, but all of his victims were black or Hispanic.

Police searched the apartment of Selis, a father who worked as a auto mechanic, and found no evidence that he planned an attack, Assistant Chief Brian Ahearn said. He allegedly wanted his ex to listen as he "carried out his rampage".

She also provided an update on the six people who were shot but survived: all but two are in stable condition; the other two are in critical condition still, but expected to survive, she said.

Statements from San Diego police come Monday afternoon told of 49 year old shooter, Peter Raymon Selis having been 'despondent' over his love life before ultimately shot dead by responding police after killing one individual and injuring six others. One woman later died.

During a press conference with city officials, San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer praised police and first responders for their efforts and suggested responding officers "precluded further bloodshed".

Phillips claims that the man who was celebrating his birthday was injured in the event, but this has not been confirmed by authorities.

"It was very eerie, to say the least", one guest at the party recalled. Peter Selis, 49, open fired on the party at the crowded pool.
