As part of Tesla's new Supercharger policy, anyone who purchased a vehicle in January or later gets 1,000 miles worth of free Supercharger credits before the pay-per-use model kicks in.

It's allowing any and all existing Tesla owners to use the Supercharger network for free. At the time, the automaker also said all existing owners and those who order before January 1, 2017 and take delivery before April 1, 2017 will continue to receive Supercharging for free. Anyone who purchased a Model S or Model X when the new policy went into effect can still unlock free Supercharger access retroactively if they find a referral code.

In addition, any Supercharging payments made have been automatically refunded. That meant that if an existing owner bought a new auto, they would be paying just like everybody else, while the people who bought their old Model S or X would continue to enjoy free Supercharger access. Existing Tesla owners can give free and unlimited charging to up to five friends.
If an existing Tesla owner upgrades to a Model S or Model X in the future, they will retain their right to free Supercharger use.
