Before Tuesday, Ms Constand had never spoken about Cosby in public, barred from doing so under the terms of a confidential settlement they reached in 2006.
Attorneys for Bill Cosby turned their attention to early discrepancies in statements by the woman who has accused him of sexually assaulting her in 2004, as they sought to discredit prosecutors' star witness.
During the start of the cross-examination of Constand, defense lawyer Angela C. Agrusa suggested Constand gave inconsistent statements to investigators concerning her contact with Cosby before and after the alleged incident and implied her testimony can not be trusted.
After a series of phone calls, Constand, who was then in her 30s, said the married Cosby began inviting her to dinner at his house and other events.
Cosby, who turns 80 in July and is reportedly legally blind, appeared to listen attentively to Constand's testimony, occasionally consulted with his lawyers but did not show any outward reaction.
"In my head, I was trying to get my hands to move or my legs to move, but I was frozen", Andrea Constand, a 44-year-old former employee of the basketball program at Temple University, said in their long-awaited courtroom confrontation.
While on the stand on Tuesday, Constand said she rejected Cosby's casual advances twice before he offered her three blue pills after dinner during one encounter.

And she explained away numerous phone calls they had afterward by saying she was merely returning Cosby's messages about the women's basketball squad at Temple University, where he was a powerful member of the board of trustees and she was director of team operations.
