Warriors ride Durant to beat Cavaliers and clinch NBA title

Golden State Warriors champagne

BART gearing up for massive crowd during Warriors parade

The Golden State Warriors earned their second National Basketball Association title in three years with a 129 to 120 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Oakland Monday night, led by All-Star forward Kevin Durant's 39 points and strong bench scoring.

Golden State completed an unprecedented 16-1 run through the National Basketball Association playoffs, registering the second-best average point differential (plus-13.5) in league history. Battling through a debilitating back issue the last two years, which forced him to miss most of the playoffs this season, you could see it in his eyes after the game that he truly appreciates what the team accomplished this season.

"But we were disciplined, we had a message everyday - it was always just about us".

Draymond Green had only a so-so Finals, but that's unlikely to be true in next year's Finals, or 2019, or 2020 - all series the Warriors will be heavily, heavily favored to win.

The run helped the Warriors win the second quarter by 15 points. They led at the half by 11.

Two best free agents this summer will be Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry, and it is not likely they will join any other team after winning a championship.

Durant shot 14 of 20 overall and 5 of 8 on 3-pointers, hitting three of his threes during the critical second-quarter run that lasted more than seven minutes and turned a 41-33 deficit into a 61-45 advantage.

GOP shrugs off Comey revelations, sticks with Trump
After dodging the question the first time , Trump was pressed again, saying he wasn't hinting at the presence of recordings. The president was twice questioned on Friday about whether there are tapes of his and Comey's discussions.

From there, the Warriors defense stiffened and the Cavaliers congratulated the Warriors as the finals seconds ticked off the clock and the crowd went wild.

Between 400 and 500 spectators and vehicles participated in "sideshow" activity in East Oakland on Monday night and some revelers threw rocks and bottles at officers, though no serious injuries were reported. It is unclear if any team going forward had a real chance in the years ahead. And throughout the Finals, it often looked as though they were listening to him.

There are the Warriors, and then there are 29 other teams.

And to top it off, to the surprise of no one, Durant was named the Finals MVP. "For me to go out there and for the guys that allowed me to be the leader that I am and allow me and trust me that I'm going to make the right plays and I'm going to do the right things and have the right intention, that's a compliment to my guys". Uh, well, unless you're a Warriors fan I've got some pretty bad news for you. Led the league with 121 points per game while outscoring opponents by 12.3 per night behind their potent backcourt of Goodrich and West, who each averaged almost 26 points to rank in the league's top six.

The only real drama in the Warriors' path to a championship this season was Kerr's health. Then it was Golden State's turn again, taking the title in five games. They're already the darlings of Vegas for next season.

Let's also remember that those Jordan teams won three-straight titles...twice! But in the end, James fell short. They need more performances like Monday's from J.R., and they need to acquire better talent to replace a number of decent to above-average players on the bench.

"I've never experienced a championship in front of our home court and I like this one a lot better", Warriors point guard Steph Curry said. The Warriors outscored the Cavs by 18 with Iggy on the floor.
