Couple's dramatic 911 call after being held hostage by escaped Georgia inmates: 'Get the police out here'

Ricky Myrick, assistant commissioner of the Georgia Department of Corrections, told reporters on Wednesday that the inmates were most recently cellmates at Baldwin State Prison and had been cellmates at other Georgia prisons.

"True bravery is what's caused us to stand before you tonight to talk about a successful capture instead of a tragic incident", he said.

In this June 15, 2017 photo released by the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, escaped Georgia inmate Donnie Russell Rowe poses for a booking photo in Tenn.

Rutherford County Sheriff Michael Fitzhugh said the suspects fired shots, striking several cruisers, but his deputies weren't hit and didn't return fire to avoid endangering other motorists.

"They have known each other for quite a while", Myrick said.

"I prayed like I have never prayed before", Hale said.

Hale said around 6:40 p.m. on Thursday he got two calls from neighbors warning him that two criminals had just been in a shooting with police nearby.

Protocol is to have two armed corrections officers on the bus, but the officers don't wear bullet-proof vests during transfers, Dozier said.

Donnie Rowe, 43, and Ricky Dubose, 24, were apprehended following a auto chase with police about an hour's drive southeast of Nashville, said Stephen Emmett, a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Atlanta.

Rowe and Dubose made their first appearance while in Rutherford County custody Friday, waiving their extradition to Georgia.

It is not clear whether the White House could use executive privilege to try to block them from speaking to the investigators. As part of the probe, the special counsel has also gathered Comey's written accounts of his conversations with Trump.

Hale added the men took off their shirts and starting waving them at him in an attempt to get him to slow down. They will be extradited back to Georgia where they'll face an array of charges.

Their escape began early Tuesday, when authorities said they somehow got through a door that should have been locked separating the guards from the inmates on the prison bus.

Hours before their capture, Putnam County, Georgia, Sheriff Howard Sills said the public was in "grave danger" and that authorities did not know where the risky inmates were.

The duo carjacked a green Honda Civic and drove it for 25 miles to an elderly couples home, which they reportedly ransacked and held the couple hostage for an undisclosed amount of time before stealing their Ford pickup truck. They ultimately left the truck in Tennessee and stole a white sedan, which they abandoned near the hostages' home, Swing said.

But the agency says authorities have not decided how to disperse the reward, which comes from multiple law enforcement agencies.

The FBI announced a tip line and advertised a $130,000 reward on billboards.

ORIGINAL STORY: For two days, police in the south were engaged in an all-out manhunt in search of escaped convicts Donnie Rowe and Ricky Dubose.

Monica, 42, a sergeant, worked for the department for nearly eight years and leaves a wife.

"We will do everything in our power to support their loved ones, and we will not forget their sacrifice and service", Deal said.

Rowe is serving life without parole for armed robbery, the department of corrections said, and Dubose is serving a 20-year sentence for armed robbery.
