A fast-moving wildfire charred more than 7 square miles in north-central Arizona on Tuesday and forced the evacuation of the town of Mayer as a precaution, along with other areas.

The Arizona Republic ( reports that Mayer, Arizona, resident Terry Jackson put a garden hose to the roof after local authorities told him he had to evacuate.

On Tuesday, the danger to Mayer was highlighted by a C-130 airtanker's slurry drops between Mayer and the advancing front of the fire.

On June 22, Thursday, a three-judge federal appeals panel ruled that the confession Avery's nephew made was improperly obtained. Attorneys for Wisconsin inmate Brendan Dassey responded to state prosecutors' attempt to block Dassey's release from prison.

Tiffany Davila of the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management says the fire is in a rugged area, and heavy winds Monday and Tuesday have made it hard to suppress.

"Our attention and resources are focused heavily on containing the fire and protecting property and lives", Arizona Governor Doug Ducey said in a statement, in which he called the blaze the state's "top priority".

Strong winds helped fuel the fire that is burning mostly through chaparral and heavy grass that has accumulated over the last couple of years. It's also in steep, rugged terrain that makes it hard for firefighters to reach.

"I'm issuing [Friday]'s declaration to make sure they have every resource needed to do their jobs and protect our communities", Ducey said in a release.
