A 41-year-old man who allegedly punched a woman in the head during a road rage incident on the NSW Central Coast has been charged.

According to the man who filmed the incident, the woman had thrown a number of items at the man's ute.

Dwayne Pillidge then posted the video to the Dash Cam Owners Australia Facebook page overnight.

The charges come after footage was shared widely on social media showing a man leave his vehicle and approach a woman before punching her in the face.

But shortly afterwards doctors found she was brain-dead and the decision was made to turn off her life support. The state department also said US citizens should contact the nearest USA embassy or consulate in Mexico.

But the video didn't show the lead up to the violence, and police allege the woman was throwing objects at the man's auto. "We tried swerving ... and he kept following us".

The man was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm after he handed himself into Wyong Police Station yesterday morning, police say.

Both the man and Sams were granted conditional bail and are expected to appear in Wyong Local Court in August and September respectively.

Authorities are now investigating the incident and will be reviewing the video in a bid to identify the man and woman involved.

The explanation comes as eruptions of road rage prompted NSW Police to appeal for witnesses to a pair of shocking incidents, one of which is already heading to court.
