#3 Clemson Tigers vs. #14 Louisville Cardinals: Five Things To Watch For

Clemson's victories the three previous years were by a total of 15 points, and the outcome was in doubt late in all three.

The Louisville Cardinals also look for a quick 3-0 start when they take their home field for the first time this season.

Jackson had 381 yards, three touchdown passes and an interception, but the reality is much of that yardage came with the game already well out of hand. I am going to side with Dabo and the Clemson defense. but it would not surprise me if Louisville pulls this one out. With a soft schedule on the horizon, and assuming Jackson avoids injuries, a win could launch Louisville's run to a playoff spot.

That was Clemson's second football national title, and Louisville doesn't have any of those. But Smith is going to be handful for every team Louisville plays this season.

That preparation is a testament to Venables, who keeps plugging in fresh high-end talent and churning out National Football League players by the time he's done with them. That means all you've seen from either of these teams is Tennessee struggling to get past Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Florida having difficulty grasping the basic concepts of offensive football against Michigan Wolverines.

Quarterback Lamar Jackson and the Cardinals would answer right back a few drives later.

Q: Ben Boulware was the heart of the Tiger defense last season.

The venue seats 55,000 fans, more than 25,000 less than Clemson's Memorial Stadium, but Tigers players who have played there before are expecting a tough crowd in the ACC opener.

The Tigers and the Cardinals kick off at 8 p.m.in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. Two of picks came in the second half and both led to touchdowns.

No. 7 MI leans on kicking game, beats Air Force 29-13
Last week MI knocked off Cincinnati on the strength of a 133-yard rushing performance from running back Ty Isaac. Quarterback Wilton Speight threw for a pair touchdowns passes going 17-of-29 passing for 221 yards.

"We've kind of got a chip on our shoulder from a year ago", junior offensive lineman Geron Christian said.

"He's a great player", Petrino said. It will be essential, Carter believes, to keep him behind the line and force him to pass. They knew that after the long, dark offseason we were in dire need of wonderful matchups, and we received them through the first two weeks.

Jackson has had a fast start to the season. Auburn coach Gus Malzahn complimented Clemson's front four, comprised of defensive tackles Dexter Lawrence and Christian Wilkins and defensive ends Clelin Ferrell and Austin Bryant.

"He exposes a lot of people in the way that he plays". The obvious choice might be someone on Clemson's defensive line, or all of them.

The Tigers and Cardinals have battled each year since Louisville joined the ACC, with each game being decided by less than seven points - six points at Clemson in 2014, three points at Louisville in 2015 and six points last season at Clemson.

It's reductive to say that as long as Jackson runs for 100 yards, Louisville has a good chance of winning, or should win, or whatever.

The key to the entire game for Clemson is stopping Jackson just enough, which is obviously much easier said than done. Neither of these teams has played stiff competition thus far, so this is a bit of a toss up.

"He in my view is the best assistant coach in the country", Clemson athletic director Dan Radakovich said when giving Venables a $270,000 raise after last season.
