A MI baby who was born at 24 weeks gestation after her mother fell into a coma while suffering from brain cancer has died, her family members said.
Life was born via cesarean section on September 6, just three days before her mother, Carrie DeKlyen, passed away. She remained on life support and was nourished through a feeding tube and oxygen while doctors closely monitored her unborn baby.
Relatives said Life had been doing better than expected after being born prematurely at 1 pound, 4 ounces (567 grams).
After delivering Life, Carrie was taken off of life support, with her family telling supporters on their Facebook support page Cure 4 Carrie that she is "very comfortable she is in God's hands until he calls her home". "I have no explanation of why this happened, but I do know Jesus loves us and someday we will know why".
Well-aware of the results, Carrie and her husband chose to give birth to their sixth child.
Thirty-seven-year-old Carrie DeKlyen from MI found out she had an aggressive malignant tumour which affects the brain and spinal cord in April.
Nick told People in a previous interview that the couple believed the little girl's future was worth Carrie's huge sacrifice. "The doctor said, 'If you don't terminate this baby, Carrie, you will die, '" Nick said.
