A terrorist was shot dead during an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Uri sector. The encounter had triggered between forces and militants Sunday morning after army laid cordon in the area. Officials said that the terrorists were planning to carry out a major attack on an army base in the area.
"The security personnel were assisted by army helicopters in locating the position of militants", they said. A search operation has been on since Saturday night and the area has been cordoned off.
"One militant has been killed in the operation". Last year, militants had attacked the Army brigade headquarters in Uri, close to the Line of Control.

He said the agency's analysts were "looking at unusual seismic activity of a much smaller magnitude" in North Korea. The agencysaid it was analysing the nature of the quake and its initial view was that it was a natural earthquake.
"Further investigations are going in", he said adding, "We are indebted to villagers for informing us about the presence of militants and allowing us to foil major attack on security forces installations". In the encounter that followed, the three terrorists were killed. Three to four terrorists were earlier trapped.
Terrorists threw the grenade at a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp near the bank.
