Explosion at London Tower Hill station triggers panic among passengers

London underground bomb blast: A low-intensity explosion has been reported at London's Tower Hill Station.

Officers have since confirmed that a flaming package seen in pictures posted online was in fact a faulty mobile phone charger. The explosion occurred on the Tower Hill station's District Line, a report on Geo TV says.

Some of those on the platform at the time of the incident said they saw the charger "hissing and smoking" in the carriage.

A shooting incident was reported near the residence of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, the Presidential Security Group said. Duterte won the presidency with a wide margin previous year on a promise to eradicate crime and corruption.

Earlier, reports from the incident had stated that a black bag caught fire after what appeared to be a low-intensity explosion in one the carriages of the train.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said officers were called to the scene shortly before 12.30 this afternoon.

However, the London Fire Brigade department informed that the incident at the Tower Hill station is not suspicious as it was caused by overheating of a mobile charger.
