A day after 37-year-old Wesley Mathews, the adoptive father of 3-year-old Sherin Mathews was re-arrested by the U.S. police, he has admitted to removing the child's body from their home.
First-degree felony injury to a child is punishable by up to life imprisonment or from five to 99 years in prison, USA media reported.
He was booked into the Richardson City Jail on $1,000,000 bond.
He was today charged with first-degree felony injury to a child, a crime punishable by up to life imprisonment.
Richardson Police are still waiting Tuesday for confirmation that the body of a small child found Sunday morning in a culvert about half a mile from the Mathews' home is Sherin.
These new details were part of an arrest warrant issued by the Richardson Police Department, who interviewed Wesley Mathews Monday regarding the disappearance of his adopted daughter Sherin.
Mathews initially told investigators earlier this month that he ordered Sherin, 3, to stand outside the family's home at 3 a.m.as punishment for not drinking her milk.
Since the discovery of a child's body by police on Sunday, which they believe to be that of Sherin, her father has been re-arrested and charged with a further felony offense.
The sister of a missing 3-year-old Texas girl will remain in foster care for at least three more weeks.
Winter Games catch fire: Olympic flame lit in Greece
The flame will be officially handed to the PyeongChang organizers at the Panathinaiko Stadium in Athens next Tuesday. From there the torch will be flown to to the Korean city of Incheon for the start of the Olympic Torch Relay.
Eventually, she began to drink the milk and Mathews "physically assisted" her in drinking it. "Eventually, Wesley Mathews no longer felt a pulse on the child and believed she had died", according to the warrant. He admitted to police that he removed her body from the home.
Richardson authorities said the charges against Mathews could be upgraded or modified depending on what is revealed in the medical examiner's report.
"We want to make sure everyone understands this is still a continuing investigation, and because of that there are certain dynamics that may change as we go along that may result in additional arrests or modification of charges", Perlich said.
Child Protective Services took custody of the Indian- American couple's other biological daughter, age 4, shortly after Mathews was arrested.
A custody hearing was postponed by a Dallas County judge on Monday to allow her father, Wesley Matthews, time to hire an attorney, according to CBS news.
Initially, Wesley claimed he had put Sherin outside as a punishment because she did not drink her milk.
Wesley Mathews went outside about 15 minutes later to check on her but she was gone, the affidavit stated.
"Wesley Mathews said she wouldn't listen to him". The 3-year-old began to choke.
The judge granted an extension, scheduling a new hearing for November 13, and ordering that the 4-year-old remain in foster care until then.
