BREAKING: South Carolina shooting – University placed on LOCKDOWN as gunman on the run

One person is believed to have been shot following reports of an "active shooter situation" close to the University of SC.

The campus lifted the lockdown just before 2 p.m.

Spartanburg County emergency dispatchers confirmed deputies were called to the Campus Edge Apartments located next to the campus but could not confirm the nature of the call.

A tweet from the university described the shooter as wearing khaki trousers and a grey "hoodie", carrying an automatic weapon.

Tammy Whaley, with USC Upstate, said the victim has not-life-threatening injuries.

Anyone who sees the suspect should not attempt to apprehend him - but instead should call 911 immediately, the department said. He was wearing a plaid shirt, dark jeans, white sneakers and a baseball cap with dollar signs on the front.

There is said to be an active shooter situation near the University of SC, with one person believed to have been shot.

Another issue Bobo had was with USC Upstate's decision to lock down the campus.

"We are not sure where he is and that's why there's a campus lockdown", the officer said.

Police have the apartment complex where the shots were fired surrounded as they investigate what happened.

Reports stated that one person has been shot and the suspect fled the scene on foot.
