When President Donald Trump departed Asia, the first lady remained behind to tour the Bejing Zoo and the Great Wall of China.

The former model was greeted by a group of schoolchildren who waved Chinese and American flags and led her to the panda enclosure. As her husband flew on to an Asian summit in Vietnam, Melania stayed behind to see the country's sights (including a visit to see pandas at a Beijing zoo) before heading home through Alaska.

"The panda star in the zoo is Gu Gu. Wonderful to meet Gu Gu!"

"China can fix this problem easily and quickly, and I am calling on China and your great president to hopefully work on it very hard", Trump said Thursday.

The first lady is slated to visit the Great Wall later Friday before departing for Alaska, where she will do an event with US troops, before returning to Washington.

The Trumps visited Japan and South Korea before landing in China.
