On Twitter, the U.S. president described the conversation with Putin as good and condemned all who criticized his efforts to improve relations with Russian Federation as haters and fools.
"By not confronting the issue directly and not acknowledging to Putin that we know you're responsible for this, I think he's giving Putin a pass", Brennan said on CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday morning. Well, it's three. And one is Brennan and one is whatever.
Clapper piled on: "He seems very susceptible to rolling out the red carpet and honor guards and all the trappings and pomp and circumstance that come with the office, and I think that appeals to him, and I think it plays to his insecurities".
Trump's attacks on Clapper, Comey and Brennan as "political hacks" are part of his effort to delegitimize the intelligence community's assessment, said Brennan. "And to impugn the character of somebody like Jim Clapper - on Veterans Day - who has dedicated so much of his life to this country, I just find that outrageous, and it's something I think that Mr. Trump should be ashamed of".
In his defense of the Russian president, Trump indicated that it would be better for the USA and Russia to have a good relationship, because the Kremlin could help the US with North Korea-a problem many believe Trump himself is exacerbating with his insulting tweets directed at Kim Jong Un.
Brennan said that Trump was trying to "delegitimize" the USA intelligence community and that, considering Trump was the source of the criticism, he saw it as a "badge of honor".
The CIA and other US intelligence agencies have concluded that Russian Federation meddled in the 2016 election to help Mr. Trump defeat Democrat Hillary Clinton.

"Well, I think we were prepared", Brennan said, going on to say he believed the pushback against the Russians at the time impressed upon them there would be "very serious consequences".
On Saturday, Mr. Trump labeled the former heads of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the CIA and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence as "hacks" whose judgment he questioned on the matter of Russian meddling.
Brennan said Putin's apparent success with Trump was due to his use of flattery and Brennan's suspicion that Trump "for whatever reason" might be "intimidated" by Putin. And I think it sends a worrisome, very disturbing signal to our allies and partners who are concerned about Russian interference in their democratic processes as well.
"I don't know why the ambiguity about this", Brennan said.
"I think Mr. Putin is very clever in terms of playing to Mr. Trump's interest in being flattered".
Clapper and Brennan were on with CNN in an interview subsequently published on YouTube, and Brennan in particular has made some scathing remarks about the president.
"The director stands by and has always stood by the January 2017 intelligence community assessment entitled: 'Assessing Russian Activities and Intentions in Recent U.S. Elections.' The intelligence assessment with regard to Russian election meddling has not changed". "I had no direct evidence of collusion", Clapper said Sunday.
