Shooting On Busy I-95 In Providence Shuts Down Highway
State police have declined to say whether the incident in Providence is related to the theft of a Police crusier earlier Thursday. A man who allegedly stole a Rhode Island state police cruiser, triggering a manhunt, has been arrested, according to police.
Termed as "Operation Clean Money Drive", the raids, which initially covered 187 places, were narrowed down to 40 places on the third day as officials claimed to have found incriminating documents. Based on the filing and the data with the IT department, the searches was carried out to detect tax evasion. The two residences of Sasikala's astrologer and a jewellery shop in Cuddalore are also under the scanner.
The official said the department waited for the individuals and companies associated with Sasikala to file their tax returns for the year.
"We have information about shell companies and the search is in connection with their operations", said an IT official.
The IT department has taken this stringent action against the Sasikala kin as they were indulged in tax evasion. These include the residences of Sasikala family members, Kodanad tea estate, Jazz Cinemas, Midas Distilleries, Jaya TV, Namadhu MGR newspaper and several other premises in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
