The ASEAN comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

In a near similar statement on its website, the Japanese foreign ministry said "participants discussed the direction for cooperation including with countries in the region, in upholding the rules-based order and respect for worldwide law in the Indo-Pacific". PM Modi will also hold bilateral meetings with Filipino President Rodrigo Duterte, Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull among others.
