Now sitting at -362,000 points in less than 24 hours (and still growing), the post from user EACommunityTeam has caught the wrath of the internet after it defended Battlefront II's progression system that locks heroes behind absurd amounts of credits, making players believe that the company made this decision to push them towards purchasing microtransactions.
Star Wars Battlefront II is due for release on Friday. It's gorgeous, has a ton of fun solo and multiplayer content, and includes some of the most iconic locales and characters from Star Wars' entire history. After all, a good multiplayer game can keep you entertained for years.
The comment was made in response to criticism about popular characters Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker being locked behind a paywall in the game.
This post is nearly certainly getting down-voted en masse at the current rate thanks to a bot network, butttt the post has gaining a lot of attention with thousands of responses mostly lambasting EA for messing with the gaming industry. That's not why EA did it, though. They prey on those with addiction problems, and mangle games that use them to the point where they're virtually unplayable if you don't pony up more cash.
EA's response and subsequent backlash came after a Battlefront 2 player figured out it would take 40 hours to gain the 60,000 credits needed to unlock a hero or villain in another Reddit post.

However, these issues stem from another blog post by EA that revealed all sorts of things that didn't settle well with fans. The "EACommunityTeam" on Reddit popped up to explain the rationale for this system.
The official response defended the game's progression milestones as "challenges that are compelling, rewarding, and of course attainable" and said the company wanted to "provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment". Note, they did not dispute the math that it would take 40 hours to unlock a single character unless you pay up.
"You can not ever attain a sense of pride and accomplishment from that, because most sane people will give up long before this", they added.
This system might make sense in a free-to-play game, but Battlefront II is far from free.
EA's attempts to justify these systems have been met with anger and derision from the gamers on the Battlefront 2 subreddit. The game officially launches on November 17th, and it'll probably sell like hotcakes.
