Allowing Explosive Plays - The Dolphins defense started out strong, holding quarterback Cam Newton and company to just 10 points before the turnover by Cutler with halftime looming.

After a pair of powerful statements from the defending conference champion Atlanta Falcons and the division-leading New Orleans Saints, the Carolina Panthers couldn't afford to fall flat on Monday night.

Miami quarterback Jay Cutler completed 22 of 37 passes for 213 yards.

The Dolphins' run defense, which entered the game allowing just 94 yards per game, 10th-fewest in the National Football League, was trampled for a season-worst 294 yards, besting the previous worst (174 by Baltimore) by a sizeable margin.

Newton led a high-powered performance from an offense that had largely struggled this season.

- Panthers fans swarmed uptown on Monday, ahead of the 8:30 p.m. game against the Miami Dolphins. Jonathan Stewart had 110 yards on 17 carries as the Panthers rolled up 294 rushing yards against the NFL's seventh-ranked rush defense.

The Dolphins showed life when Kenyan Drake went 66 yards for a touchdown on a third-down run.

Four plays later, Newton connected with Ed Dickson on a 7-yard touchdown pass, the first of five straight Carolina touchdown drives.

The Panthers, though, almost turned the ball over. The Panthers' rushing total threatened Miami's franchise record of 341 yards. However, that momentum didn't carry over, as Cutler had a vintage "Jay Cutler moment" with an overaggressive and unnecessary interception to Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly with 41 seconds left in the first half that took all the energy out of the Dolphins.
