Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas apologized on Twitter Friday night after writing that women have a responsibility "to dress modestly and be classy" in response to teammate Aly Raisman's call for sexual assault victim shaming to end.
Douglas said, "however [sic] it is our responsibility as women to dress modestly and be classy. dressing [sic] in a provocative/sexual way entices the wrong crowd". What's truly shocking and surprising about Biles' response is that she seemed to believe that Douglas was making a direct attack on Raisman, instead of making a common sense statement about the dangers of provocative dress.
We were stunned to see such a mean comment from the gymnast, but it sounds like Simone Biles wasnt.
Douglas pointed out one of Raisman's tweets, in which Raisman advocated for speaking up against sexual abuse. "What did USA Gymnastics do, and Larry Nassar do, to manipulate these girls so much that they are so afraid to speak up?"
Earlier this week, Raisman told "60 Minutes" that she was sexually abused by Team USA doctor Larry Nassar, who has been accused of sexually abusing more than 100 girls.
Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman has been a tremendous advocate for objectified women, and Friday morning she reaffirmed that advocacy.
A USA Gymnastics official suggested that she get treated by Dr. Nassar, saying that the registered osteopath who was a volunteer with the organization could help her sore heels and back pain.
"This is just the beginning", she said.
