Despite such big names being associated with the Toffees, it is believed the Merseyside club want Watford Marco Silva as their new manager.

"I do my job normally during the week like I have since the first day".

He said: "What I can tell you about this situation is that I look at it like the situation when players perform well and other clubs try to approach the owner of the club. Really, I don't know". "I can only control players on the training field, pick a team and go into every game with a gameplan".

The former Hull City manager said the "most important" thing was Sunday's game against West Ham at Vicarage Road (16:00 GMT).

"I have spoken to Farhad (Moshiri, Everton's major shareholder) three or four times and the communication is fine, and I continue to have the opportunity to lead the team. For me it is a normal situation".

Former England manager Sam Allardyce distanced himself from the vacancy this week having previously said he would consider it.

Unsworth is set to take caretaker charge for a fifth game since Koeman's departure when Everton play Crystal Palace away on Saturday.

"I saw that [Allardyce's comments] and it would surprise me that anyone would rule themselves out of being Everton manager because this is an awesome club with the best fans, as we saw at the last match", said the former Toffees defender. "Whoever gets the honour of being Everton manager, be it myself or whoever else, and I will shake their hand and wish them all the best because I want this club to succeed".

"The people that matter know how I feel, they know my thoughts which will remain private". Yes, they could have given me the job by now but I am still sat here, and what will be will be.
