Goretzka set to choose Barca over Arsenal

The 22-year-old star is now out with an injury and this season, he has scored 4 goals in 9 league games so far.

It seems that while the move would look like being a massive step up, Ozil would have to be careful he wasn't actually taking a step backwards - at least in terms of the time he spends on the field.

There is more than just a small minority of Arsenal fans who think that the Germany global Mesut Ozil is nothing more than a luxury that the Gunners can not really afford to have, apart from when he blows away the doubters with a match winning performance like we saw against Tottenham last weekend.

AS understand Ozil has told Barcelona he wants €19m-a-year [£17m] to move to the Nou Camp in the winter window, and is also demanding a signing on fee.

That could be too rich for a Barcelona board who have been made more prudent by their problems with Turan, while Arsenal would demand around £17.7m to allow Ozil to leave in January, six months before his contract expires and he can leave for nothing.

And he may have already found a ready-made replacement for the 29-year-old in Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka.

The playmaker would be clear to play in the Champions League if he does move in January and this is thought to be tempting clubs into a January signing.

Campbell was asked who should Arsenal turn to in the transfer market to replace the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil. Losing Ozil would represent a significant blow for Arsenal and Arsene Wenger.

"I never questioned their commitment". Not at all. They are committed to the group and we will see what happens.

Barcelona are a team on the ascendancy right now, and everything they are doing in the transfer market seems to be panning out wonderfully well. exhibit A: Paulinho, the much-derided superstar now has the same number of La Liga goals as Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, and Cristiano Ronaldo combined this season.
