All eyes will be on Suncorp Stadium tomorrow night for arguably the most eagerly-anticipated sporting event in Queensland this week as Australia takes on the Vodafone Fiji Bati for a spot in the Rugby League World Cup final.

Valentine Holmes scored six tries to smash all sorts of records and take his place at the top of the tryscorers charts as Mal Meninga's men made it look routine.

They will now play either England or Tonga in next Saturday's final and will go into the decider as firm favourites to claim their 11th title after their 10 try to one demolition.

Australia captain Cameron Smith said: "I'm really pleased with the effort the boys have put in and we are scoring points".

However, unlike the Kiwis in the quarterfinals, the Kangaroos were able to regain their composure against Fiji.

"It was a tough assignment against Australia", said Fiji captain Kevin Naiqama.

Tempers flared after former Australia playmaker Jarryd Hayne's early hit on Slater and Apisai Koroisau put Fiji in front with a penalty in a frantic start, but that proved to be a false dawn.

Australia were too big, too fast and too strong for their opponents and dominated both possession and territory.

On the back of scoring five tries against Samoa last week, Holmes went in for his second just seven minutes later when he found himself on the end of a swift left-side movement.

Analysis - what to expect Australia will have expected to take on New Zealand in the opening semi-final this weekend but Fiji produced a wonderful display to shock the Kiwis and earned the right to take on the world champions.

Although Fiji conceded a penalty from it, it showed their initial intent, that they weren't going to be bullied by this more experienced Australian team.

Smith's third successful conversion put the tournament favourites 22-2 up at half-time and the onslaught continued after the break, the rapid Holmes racing nearly the full length of the field for a hat-trick after plucking a stray pass from Kevin Naiqama just a minute into the second half.

Slater's second try came in the 48th minute and Holmes' fourth was four minutes later.
