Stillwater Cove in Pebble Beach was evacuated Friday after a shark attacked a man who was spearfishing in the area, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.

The area has been the site of several shark attacks in the past.

Authorities said the incident occurred about 1:45 Stillwater Cove, near The Lodge at Pebble Beach.

Grigor was rescued by two off-duty deputies that had been fishing out on the water.

Two off-duty sheriff's deputies responded to the scene and applied a tourniquet to the man's leg to help stop "his massive blood loss".

A "large aquatic animal" was spotted by police flying overhead in a helicopter after the incident.
