In a labour force of 39,700, the region saw 37,700 people employed.

The Alberta unemployment rate for last month was 7.3 per cent, down from October's 7.8 per cent.

The figure dropped to 3.3 per cent in November, compared to 3.8 per cent the previous month.

Greater Sudbury added jobs in November, but an increase in the number of people looking for work pushed the city's jobless rate up slightly to 6.2 per cent. "And at the same time employment increased but it looks like the number of people searching for work increased at a faster rate".

Nationally, the economy created 79,500 net new jobs in November, driving the unemployment rate down four-tenths of a per cent to 5.9 per cent. "Ontario has seen a downward trend in the unemployment rate since the start of 2016".

It was also the biggest addition of jobs in a single month since April 2012, when the economy was rebounding out of recession. While Statistics Canada's month-to-month labour force survey data tends to be volatile, the agency said the country had added 390,000 jobs over the 12 months through November, up 2.1 per cent, entirely attributable to 441,400 new full-time jobs.

Less than half of Canada's population aged 25 to 54 worked a full-time job for all of 2015, census data shows.

Ontario was Canada's job-gains leader, employing 44,000 more people, boosted largely by manufacturing and wholesale and resale trade; the province's unemployment rate was 5.5 per cent, its lowest since July 2000, Statistics Canada said.
