Five people were injured in a train collision in a city close to Dusseldorf on Tuesday, local fire department said. Torn overhead power cables had initially hindered recovery work.

The initial estimates of injury were lower; Deutsche Bahn rail company, which operated the passenger train, first estimated only five people had been hurt, then raised the estimate to almost 50. The train was on its way to Rotterdam in The Netherlands. The train had around 100 passengers on board. "It could have ended far worse than it did".
