The magazine's editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal revealed the selection Wednesday on TODAY along with the cover, a composite group photo that includes actress Ashley Judd, singer Taylor Swift and former Uber engineer Susan Fowler.

The movement put a spotlight on just how prevalent sexual harassment is in many women's lives.

It's a recognition of the cultural reckoning this year and the #MeToo movement, which represents the people, mostly women, who have fueled a worldwide discussion about sexual harassment and assault. "Literally, I exited that hotel room at the Peninsula Hotel in 1997 and came straight downstairs to the lobby, where my dad was waiting for me, because he happened to be in Los Angeles from Kentucky, visiting me on the set".

Social activist Tarana Burke also responded to being included in the story, tweeting: "Thank you EVERYONE!"

One of the names noticeably missing from the list was former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who had been among the finalists a year ago but ultimately lost out to President Trump.
