WNML radio host Jimmy Hyams reported on Wednesday night that Tennessee has offered their head coaching job to Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt. During a search that's seen some insane twists, Fulmer informing these other defensive coaches he's moving on appears to provide a good indication Tennessee is confident it can reach a deal with Pruitt.
He's served as the Crimson Tide's defensive coordinator the past two seasons, doing so after being the DC at Florida State in 2013 and at Georgia from 2014-15. That was his first job in major college football after spending the previous seven years as a high school assistant coach. Should the Vols hire him, he would be the sixth former defensive coordinator leading a team in the SEC East - the third to hold that role under Nick Saban (Will Muschamp, Kirby Smart). This year, Alabama leads the nation in scoring defense and yards per play.
He named his son, born in May, after former Alabama linebackers Ryan Anderson and Reuben Foster.
Pruitt would also be the second former Saban assistant to take the head coaching position at Tennessee. Dabo Swinney also owes a lot of Clemson's achievements under his watch to having two Broyles Award-winning assistants (Brent Venables and Tony Elliott) as well as another who eventually accepted the Arkansas job (Chad Morris).
Champions League group stage reaches climax
The Champions League last-16 draw will take place in Nyon on Monday, December 11 at 11am GMT . As recently as March we asked why EPL clubs suck so badly in the Champions League.
The Vols' search became major news after the job was given to (and then rescinded from) Greg Schiano.
It was during that meeting that Currie was put on paid leave and Fulmer, who has acted as a special advisor to the university, was chosen to be the new athletic director.
Pruitt has been excellent at every one of his college coaching stops, and he has years of experience recruiting in the Southeast region.
