- They are trying to go the extra mile: One theory is Ohtani's representation has informed the teams that he really does like what they have to offer and that they are the two finalists, but could they possibly do a little something extra to sweeten the pot?

The Twins were unable to make it to the final round in the competition for Shohei Ohtani, but they still found a way to capitalize on the mania surrounding the two-way Japanese sensation. The Twins had $3.2 million in their global pool, but Ohtani narrowed the list of teams he was considering to seven finalists, and the Twins were not on the list.

The worldwide bonus pool money is the only additional dollars that teams can pay Ohtani.

The Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Angels each have acquired $1 million in worldwide bonus pool money from the Minnesota Twins, aiding their pursuit of Japanese outfielder and pitcher Shohei Otani.

The Angels' third-round pick in June 2017, Pearson hit.226 with a.302 on base percentage in the rookie-level Arizona League this summer.

Wenger is very much likely to play another second-string side when they take on the Belarusian outfit in north London on Thursday. Arsenal sit fifth in the table at present, one point behind Liverpool and 15 adrift of unbeaten leaders Manchester City .

Seattle can now offer Otani $2,557,500 and Los Angeles can spend $2,315,000. In his first pro season, he hit.236 (30 for 127) with eight doubles, four homers and 26 RBI in 36 games for Short-season Everett.

Ohtani's representatives told the Twins on Sunday he would not sign with Minnesota.

Whichever team lands the free agent from Japan will acquire arguably the top prize on the free-agent market. The Cubs, Dodgers, Giants and Padres are capped at $300,000.

It improves the Angels' bonus pool to $2.315 million and the Mariners to $2.55 million.

Pearson was Louisiana's Gatorade state Player of the Year in 2017, and the Angels signed him for above slot value at $1 million. Teams, including the Rangers, could continue to add money in that period to try to present Ohtani the best possible financial package. Atlanta's worldwide scouting scandal made free agents of 12 players (the Angels have reportedly already agreed to terms with former Braves prospect Kevin Maitan).
