Michael Flynn Promised Ex-Partner That Russia Sanctions Would Be 'Ripped Up'

Flynn Said Russian Sanctions Would be 'Ripped Up,' Whistle-Blower Says

Whistleblower: Flynn told ex-partner Russia sanctions would be ripped up

According to The New York Times, House Oversight Committee ranking Democrat Elijah Cummings wrote to committee chair Trey Gowdy that "within minutes of Donald Trump being sworn in as President", Flynn was "communicating directly with his former business colleagues about their plan to work with Russian Federation to build nuclear reactors in the Middle East".

The congressman, Rep. Elijah Cummings, outlined the whistleblower's allegations in a letter to House Oversight Committee Chair Rep. Trey Gowdy earlier this week.

Before joining the Trump campaign, "Flynn had worked on a business venture to partner with Russian Federation to build nuclear power plants in the Middle East until June 2016, but remained close with the people involved afterward", The New York Times.

"I do not bring this whistleblower to your attention lightly", Cummings, the Baltimore lawmaker and top Democrat on the committee wrote in the letter.

The individual met with Alex Copson on Inauguration Day.

Cummings said the whistleblower, whom he did not identify in the letter, "fears retaliation", but would speak with Gowdy if he agrees to protect the whistleblower's identity.

The whistleblower said that Copson quickly displayed what he claimed to be a text message from Flynn that appeared to have been sent during Trump's inauguration speech.

Rupert Murdoch's House Caught in California Wildfire
US President Donald Trump, in a tweet, asked people "to heed the advice and orders of local and state officials". In the posh Bel Air area, wildfire has destroyed "at least four and possibly six homes" and forced evacuation.

That's the explosive, but unverified, allegation of a whistleblower cooperating with House Democrats probing the myriad scandals surrounding Flynn, who pleaded guilty earlier this month to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about his contacts with a senior Russian diplomat. Mr Copson was described by the whistle-blower as responding, "I couldn't be better", and that he was "going to celebrate today". The whistleblower also said that Copson intimated that USA financial sanctions hobbling the nuclear project were going to be "ripped up". He said Flynn did not cash the check, however.

He added, "This is going to make a lot of very wealthy people".

Copson, according to the whistleblower, said Obama's sanctions had "f**ked everything up in my nuclear deal with the sanctions".

Attempts to reach Mr. Copson on Wednesday were unsuccessful. Cummings and committee Democrats have complained that Gowdy has stiff-armed the Flynn investigation since he took over the committee in June by consistently refusing to issue subpoenas to the White House and various administration officials, Flynn's consulting firm and his business colleagues related to the matter.

Flynn had assured his former associate that US sanctions against Russian Federation would immediately be "ripped up" by the Trump administration, a move that would help facilitate the deal, the associate told the witness.

Flynn was involved in the Middle Eastern nuclear project from spring 2015 to the end of 2016, according to recent financial disclosure filings, a period that overlapped with his role as a prominent adviser to Trump's campaign and transition.
