NRA May See Major Legislative Win With Concealed Carry Bill

After Vegas And Texas Massacres, Republicans Try To Make It Easier To Carry Concealed Guns

The House approved the bill, 231-198, largely along party lines. Fourteen Republicans opposed the legislation, the first major firearms-related bill Congress has voted on since the massacres in Las Vegas and Texas earlier this year. "It will affirm that law-abiding citizens who are qualified to carry concealed in one state can also carry in other states that allow residents to do so".

"Concealed carry reciprocity is the NRA's highest legislative priority in Congress", wrote the NRA in a press release on November 27.

The NRA has vehemently lobbied its progress.

Representative Thomas Massie (R., Ky.) shared a message with supporters on Facebook claiming, among other things, the bill "compels administrative agencies, not just courts, to adjudicate your second amendment rights" despite the text creating no new adjudication powers for any administrative agencies. "The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act is the culmination of a 30-year movement recognizing the right of all law-abiding Americans to defend themselves, and their loved ones, including when they cross state lines".

North Carolina GOP Rep. Richard Hudson, the author of the bill, recounted a story on the House floor about a woman from Pennsylvania with no criminal record who held a concealed carry permit for her pistol, which was not recognized when she traveled to New Jersey, and was later jailed. Hudson said, [National reciprocity] won't increase crime.

"The truth is that concealed carry laws save lives", said Mr. Ryan, Wisconsin Republican. Two months after two of the deadliest shootings in USA history, Republicans were "brazenly moving to hand the NRA the biggest item on its Christmas wish list", said Pelosi, D-Calif.

Eating Small Bits Of Cheese Daily Helps Lower Heart Disease Risks
Overconsumption, however, can trigger high cholesterol and increase risk of heart disease due to high levels of saturated fat. But researchers warned that daily cheese eaters weren't consuming a huge amount.

"No one should pass a firearms background check that he or she should have failed simply because their record of a felony conviction or domestic violence record, or some other prohibition under federal law, was not included in the system", Mr. Nadler said.

"Thoughts & prayers alone will not prevent the next horrific tragedy". Senator Cornyn and I disagree on nearly everything about guns, but we came together to write the Fix NICS Act because ensuring our background checks work is just common sense. "This is not the kind of leadership our nation deserves", Giffords tweeted at Republican Rep. Darrell Issa in just one of almost 40 responses she had sent out.

But Democrats, who mostly opposed the reciprocity bill, were angered that the legislation was merged with another proposal meant to strengthen the federal background check system. The devices allow semi-automatic rifles to fire almost as fast an automatic rifle.

The acting director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said the agency expects to regulate bump-stock devices and could end up banning them. It was supported by most Republicans and a half-dozen Democrats. John Cornyn, a Texas Republican, would address the criminal database concerns. He has a bipartisan bill on that issue with Connecticut Sen.

"We are in the thick of the legislative process and a so-called 'pro-gun group, ' which is nothing more than a fundraising entity, is spreading lies about the FIX NICS legislation that was attached to the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act", Lars Dalseide, a spokesperson for the NRA's Institute for Legislative Action, told the Washington Free Beacon.
