If you're wondering when everyone's favourite Pokemon donned a life of solving crime, Detective Pikachu is an adventure video game released past year in Japan, which saw a talking, intelligent Pikachu solve mysteries with a boy named Tim Goodman.

Legendary's live-action Pokémon movie, Detective Pikachu, has been charging full-steam ahead in the past month.

Before Reynolds was on an alleged shortlist for the role, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Mark Wahlberg, and Hugh Jackman were also considered for the titular Pikachu.

The story will reportedly revolve around the disappearance of the father of the character essayed by Smith, which forces him to take Pikachu's help.

Tim Goodman will be played by Justice Smith and this film will be centered around his character. The announcement of Reynolds' new role comes amid the popularity of the Pokemon Go mobile game.
