A similar incident just occurred to London Mayor Sadiq Khan during his historic walk across the border between India and Pakistan.

Khan is the first ever mayor of London to make an official visit to Pakistan.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan calls on Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in Islamabad on December 7, 2017. He had earlier stayed in India for three days where he met politicians and other prominent personalities in Mumbai, Delhi and Amritsar.

Accompanied by a delegation of investors and officials, London's mayor was received warmly at the Wagah border by Mayor of Lahore retired Col Mubashar Javed and senior officials of the Punjab government.

The prime minister said that successful counter-terrorism efforts have made Pakistan an opportune destination for United Kingdom businesses.

He briefed the Mayor on the excellent opportunities for trade and investment in Pakistan.

"The foreign minister also briefed the mayor about Pakistan's successes in the economic field and the regional situation", a Foreign Office statement said.

"But it's good to be in Pakistan", Khan added with a grin.

Asked in July of this year for an update, Mr Khan said TfL expected "to be able to confirm the plan for London Overground Boxing Day services in September". "I found Lahore as I had heard of it".

"We were advised against going to India and Pakistan on the same trip", Khan said. On this occasion, Zafar equated London with Lahore vis-à-vis socio-cultural openness.
