Now Ngannou will get his first shot at gold as he faces Miocic in Boston as the new headliner for UFC 220 with light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier taking on Volkan Oezdemir in the co-main event on the card.

Francis Ngannou may not be the No. 1 heavyweight in the world, but when he challenges champion Stipe Miocic, he will be treated as such.

THE UFC TITLES in the light-heavyweight and heavyweight divisions both look set to be up for grabs when the organisation returns to Boston's TD Garden early in 2018.

This heavyweight title fight is not only one of the most intriguing to book stylistically, but it also comes with serious implications.

Miocic's last fight was a first-round TKO victory over Junior dos Santos back in May.

One thing is for certain, that on January 20 history will be made, either in the form of a new champion, or a legend cementing his legacy.

Ngannou is only days removed from the biggest win of his career at UFC 218, which saw him virtually remove Alistair Overeem's head from his shoulders with a thunderous knockout blow. The 35-year-old Cleveland native shocked Fabricio Werdum to win the title 18 months ago, before making a successful first defence against Alistair Overeem in September 2016. All three victories have come by way of stoppage - two as knockouts and the Dos Santos win via TKO.
