Crippled by opposition, Trump's voter fraud commission dissolves

Trump fears being poisoned, expected to lose election, new book claims

Grimes and a majority of Secretaries of State across the nation refused to submit voter information to the commission, which was set up by President Trump previous year.

In a statement, White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Trump had made a decision to dissolve the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity "rather than engage in endless legal battles at taxpayer expense". The American Civil Liberties Union is challenging the Kansas laws, and the U.S. Court of Appeals has blocked the laws from being implemented until the case is litigated. The driving force was Kansas secretary of State Kris Kobach, who served as vice-chairman and was one of the few state officials to support Trump's voter-fraud claims.

The task of looking for illegal voters has now been assigned to the Department of Homeland Security, which surely must have better things to do than to chase this white whale of a tale. The president called for voter identification laws to be implemented.

We agree with Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon who has said all along that a more serious threat is cyber attacks on the nation's elections. If they really believed that there was evidence that millions of people had voted illegally, enough to swing an entire presidential election, wouldn't it be irresponsible and inexcusable to just drop it because they have to fight off some lawsuits over it?

The commission was set up to investigate claims of large-scale voter fraud in the 2016 presidential election, which saw Trump win despite losing the popular vote.

Activists had long anxious that the White House commission would use concerns about supposed voter fraud to propose new measures making it more hard to vote. "System is rigged, must go to Voter I.D.", he tweeted.

In June, the White House said in a statement it suspected several voters in the country were unregistered, resulting in voter fraud.

"It is no surprise that a commission founded on a lie of widespread voter fraud proved to be a fraud itself". Most complaints were about voter data and the commission's lack of transparency.

Only Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Ohio and Washington State had complied with all of the commission's requests. "I had serious doubts about the commission's credibility and trustworthiness", he said Wednesday. Instead of addressing real problems like Russian hacking and solutions that improve security and accessibility, the commission was always a partisan vehicle to justify President Trump's baseless lies about why he lost the popular vote.
