USA senator-elect Doug Jones owes a great deal of gratitude to a group of Alabama organizers who played a critical role in securing the black vote for him in the special election earlier this month.

Jones became the first Democrat in 25 years to win a Senate seat in Alabama when he defeated Republican Roy Moore in the December 12 special election to fill Jeff Sessions's seat. With that narrow majority, Republicans can lose no more than one GOP vote and still confirm President Donald Trump's nominees on party-line votes. African Americans are credited with helping the Democrat win in ruby red Alabama. Corrupting and subverting the democratic process have never been blacks and Latinos "illegally" voting, much less ACORN, George Soros or any other boogeymen.

Jones said he is hopeful that he comes to the Senate with a "little bit of a voice" because of the attention on the Alabama race. Smith, who served as her state's lieutenant governor, was appointed by Minnesota's governor to replace Franken.

Per tradition, the current vice president, Mike Pence, participated in ceremonies for Alabama's Doug Jones and Minnesota's Tina Smith.

"I don't think that's an expense taxpayers should have to incur", Jones said last month. Smith's predecessor, Franken, resigned under pressure from fellow Democrats after allegations emerged that he had touched women inappropriately.

Jones, 63, who will represent one of the most conservative states in the nation, is stressing his desire to work with both parties.

Jones beat Republican Roy Moore by more than 20,000 votes in a special election to fill the seat vacated by now U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

The news that Jones would tap Gresham was quickly celebrated by some of the activists who'd called for Senate staff diversity. "You don't have to be a Washington Democrat, '" Manchin told CNN the day after the Alabama election.
