The Catalan club on Thursday night defeated Celta Vigo 5-0 at home.

This Copa Del Rey last 16 tie is finely poised after a 1-1 draw in Vigo last week which saw Celta play extremely well, before the Galicians then went on to shine in a 2-2 league draw against Real Madrid on Sunday evening.

A 1-1 draw from the first match in Galicia had left the tie looking open, but a devastating first-half performance from the holders secured their 6-1 aggregate victory.

Lionel Messi grabbed a double, scoring twice in the opening 15 minutes to take his tally to 21 goals in all competitions this term.

"As he adapts to our game, to the Liga, to European football. he requires a process of adaptation and we hope he can help us during the season".

Lionel Messi scored two goals for Barcelona against Celta Vigo.

Barcelona started the game on the front foot and never took the foot off the pedal in the first half.

"It's a luxury to have Messi in the team", Alba said.

Not long after, Andres Iniesta was also withdrawn from the action, and given there was no need to chase more goals, Barcelona were happy to hold the ball and conserve energy for much of the second period.

The speed of Barcelona's attack caught the visitors off guard, especially Sergi Gomez and Fontas. They were all over the place at the back, allowing Barcelona to break them on a consistent basis.

Barca's onslaught continued with goal number four on 31 minutes, as Luis Suarez pounced on a sloppy backpass from Pione Sisto to hammer a first-time finish beyond the reach of Alvarez.

Earlier, Barca's city rivals Espanyol had overturned their first leg deficit to get past Levante 3-2 on aggregate.
