According to reports from England, Leicester City senior players were bemused with the coach's decision to start Musa in their 2-1 Champions League loss to Sevilla on Wednesday, February 22.
The Nigerian forward has been rarely used since he moved from Manchester City to Leicester. Iheanacho has made just four starts for the Foxes this season, scoring only once.
Iheneacho was only given a 10-minute duration against League One minnows Fleetwood in a 0-0 draw on Saturday which might be his last game for the team.
"We want our players to get regular football so players like Iheanacho, Musa would have to go on transfer, " Super Eagles boss said during his guest appearance on Super Sport's Monday Night Football.
"I think Kelechi is a young player and he needs to improve aspects of his play".
This wouldn't be too much of a surprise as even Puel has admitted the £16m signing leaving is a "possibility" during the transfer window.

"Shinji Okazaki is also playing well, so it is hard for him".
"We don't have a lot of opportunities for all the players, like Ahmed Musa".
Musa, who joined Leicester City from CSKA Moscow for an undisclosed fee in July 2016, scored just two goals in 21 Premier League Appearances.
"Slimani played well in the last game", Puel said.
With the World Cup in Russian Federation now coming into view, both will hope to be part of Rohr's plans for the tournament but the Super Eagles coach has urged them to seek moves away this month so they are playing regularly.
