Dense fog continues to affect flights, train services in Indian capital

Delhi got off to a misty start on day one of the New Year as a thick blanket of fog descended on the national capital, forcing over 500 flights and 400 trains to be delayed.

Similarly, 62 trains have been delayed, 20 rescheduled and 18 cancelled to and from the two main railway stations - New Delhi railway station and Old Delhi railway station, a senior Indian Railways official said. "We have been continuously monitoring the situation and trying to improve system performance", junior civil aviation minister Jayant Sinha said in a tweet. "The fog-safety devices are meant to cut down delays", Northern Railway chief public relations officer Nitin Chowdhary said.

The national capital is facing severe fog conditions.

Yes, some people freak out about pumping their own gas
Kyle Allen spoke of the true horror of having to fill up himself: "One time, my dad came to OR and pumped his own gas". Another wrote, "Not a good idea, there are lots of reason to have an attendant helping, one is they need a job too".

Dense fog has affected visibility in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh since Monday.

Delhi has been assailed by dense fog for a couple of days and the Indian Meteorological Department has stated that there will be considerable fog today, with moderate level of fog on Saturday.

As cold wave continues to grip Delhi-NCR on Thursday morning, trains and flight schedule has adversely been affected by the low visibility. "It will slip back to "very poor" from January 3 onwards", the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research, or Safar, said on Tuesday.
