Freshman forward Brian Bowen has transferred to SC and will petition the NCAA to regain his on-court eligibility, the Gamecocks announced on Wednesday.
Bowen's lawyer, Jason Setchen of Miami, told ESPN he was "elated that SC and coach Martin have given Brian the opportunity to play college basketball".
Based on NCAA transfer rules, Bowen will have to sit for two semesters before being eligible to play.
Bowen, a 6-foot-7 forward, was a five-star prospect who committed to Louisville in early June, even though the U of L staff had not recruited him for several years.
Once discovered, the Cardinals kept him from practicing and despite being cleared by the FBI of "investigative impediments" on November 2, the school announced he would not play for the program and granted him a release.
Bowen has also denied knowing anything about alleged payments to his family, and an attorney for the freshman, Jason Setchen, said in November that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had cleared his client of any wrongdoing.
Bowen told ESPN's Jeff Goodman in December that he was "shocked" by the allegations.
Messi 's brace in Barca's stroll
Messi then turned provider, lobbing a ideal pass behind Celta's back line to meet the run by Alba, who chipped Alvarez to score. The Galicians held the Catalans to a 2-2 draw in early December before the 1-1 stalemate in the first leg of this tie.
"Brian is an exceptional young man and a basketball player with a very high IQ for the game", Martin said. If he can get back on the court, he projects to give SC a shooter on the wing. "I have the utmost faith in the compliance staff at SC and ultimately in the NCAA". He is a strong, athletic small forward, who can really shoot the ball and rebound.
Bowen, who transferred to La Lumiere High School in IN for the end of his high school career, averaged 21 points and seven rebounds per game as a senior.
Now, a possible fresh start.
SC is an interesting choice, because it was one of the schools that had employed an assistant coach who was arrested as part of the case.
The Gamecocks went to the Final Four past year under Martin.
Documents charged Evans, while at SC and OK State, had accepted bribes from business managers and financial advisers interested in gaining access to basketball players.
