Elderly couple who were stopped last month with 60 pounds of pot are arrested again on drug-trafficking charges

Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner says the 80 year-old-man and his 70 year old wife were arrested this week on suspicion of carrying drug money.

The elderly couple from California who allegedly said they were transporting $336,000 worth of high grade marijuana to give away as Christmas presents after being caught in York County have again been arrested on drug trafficking charges.

Deputies searched the truck and found about $18,000 in cash, according to the World-Herald.

A Lake County couple twice arrested in Nebraska on suspicion of marijuana-related offenses face additional charges after Sheriff's detectives searching the couple's Clearlake Oaks property found large amounts of processed pot and a grow site encroaching on federal land.

Sheriff's deputies pulled over a black 2016 Toyota Tacoma heading west on Interstate 80 Tuesday morning in Lancaster County for following another vehicle too closely, according to the police report reviewed by the Journal Star. Investigators said both were riding in a truck driven by 42-year old Maria' Jiron. A drug-sniffing dog quickly led police to the trunk of their vehicle, where most of the money was discovered inside of a duffel bag along with traces of marijuana. Their daughter, who lives in Vermont, was given a warning, local media reported.

The questions came Friday in the White House when Trump signed a proclamation honoring Martin Luther King Jr. CNN correspondents Anderson Cooper and Don Lemon held Trump to task for his comment Thursday evening.

He also says they will look into whether their fourth amendment rights were violated, which protects from unreasonable searches and seizures.

The Jirons allegedly said the marijuana was for Christmas presents for family and friends.

In York County, both were charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver, a Class 2A felony, and having no drug tax stamp, a Class 4 felony.

The couple's son, JustinJjiron, is a criminal prosecutor in the state of Vermont.

It should be noted that Barbara Jiron's first court appearance in York County Court is scheduled for today (Wednesday, Jan. 10) at 2 p.m.
