Frances McDormand has won her first Golden Globe award - and accepted it with a passionate, occasionally-bleeped speech befitting the woman she plays in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. "I do believe and hope that we can elicit change through the stories we tell and the way we tell them".

Ansari, born to a Muslim family from Tamil Nadu, won Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy for "Master of None", which he also writes and directs.

It features a redemption arc for a racist cop - played by Sam Rockwell - and this fact didn't gone unnoticed as the film came out on top in four big categories, including Best Motion Picture in the Drama category.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri took home the award for Best Picture - Drama, surprising many who predicted the award would go to The Post or The Shape of Water. The talk show host and actress said that as a little girl she remembered vividly watching as Sidney Poitier became the first black man to win a leading actor Oscar.

"Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" was the big victor at Sunday (7 January) night's Golden Globes, but its success has prompted a backlash.

-Actress, Drama: Elisabeth Moss, "The Handmaid's Tale". She just dedicated her award to Margaret Atwood who wrote "Handmaid's Tale".

"Good evening, ladies and remaining gentlemen", the host, Seth Meyers, said in his monologue, alluding to the notable absence of men - producers, actors, directors - felled by allegations of harassment and assault.

HBO's Big Little Lies racked up several awards including "Best Mini Series or TV Film", with actors Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern and Alexander Skarsgard winning "Best Actress", "Supporting Actress" and "Supporting Actor" for their respective slots. (Personally, my pick would be Hawkins for The Shape of Water, but that's another article.) McDormand is a familiar name to movie fans, but I wonder if enough people will have seen Three Billboards or if her character is likable enough for Academy voters to support.

It was also a big night for a pair of feminist-minded TV series.

Oprah Winfrey won the Cecil B. DeMille award and gave a speech that has been widely lauded. The star-studded event - the first major awards ceremony since the Hollywood sexual harassment scandals broke - also made headlines with its politically charged edge; the majority of the winners used their time in the spotlight to speak out against sexual harassment and gender inequality.

The 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards are now over, with all winners officially announced in a ceremony earlier today in Hollywood, California.

"Coco" was declared Best Animated Movie and "In the Fade" won for Best Foreign Language Film. "It will be because of a lot of magnificent women, fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say "me too" again". "It's 2018, marijuana is finally allowed, and sexual harassment finally isn't".

Oscar nominations will be announced the morning of January 23, and the winners revealed at the usual marathon ceremony in Los Angeles on March 4, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel for a second year, starting at 8 p.m. and broadcast live on ABC.
