They had a 35-8 edge on the break this time, and Ball's 11 assists were his most since the rookie sustained a shoulder injury that sidelined him for six games. As a team, the Lakers shot 48 percent from the field but it was their defense that came up big as they were able to hold the Kings to just 34 percent shooting and just 34 points in the second half to run away with the game.

NBA coaches, including the Dallas Mavericks' Rick Carlisle, president of the NBA Coaches Association, rallied to Walton's defense after Ball said Walton had lost the Lakers. Fueled by eight points from Ingram and seven from Randle, who had 13 points and five rebounds in the first half, Los Angeles took an 18-point lead, its largest of the night.

"And there are now guys out there wondering openly to me, executives, coaching agents, 'I wonder who the Lakers are going to hire as their next coach'".

ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported early Friday when appearing on the Rich Eisen show that Lakers management does not support Walton as much as initially thought, and they are already looking at former Memphis Grizzlies coach David Fizdale as a near future replacement for Walton. It's something that he and the Lakers will look to build upon in this upcoming three-game road trip with eyes toward extending their three-game win streak.

"You want to put somebody on the court, but you can't because of minutes", he said.

Los Angeles opened an 84-74 lead going into the fourth quarter, closing the third on a 22-10 run.

"They made the last run and just kind of sustained it", Fox said.

"If obviously in some games as he continues to grow as a young player, that requires him to take over by scoring, then do that".

"(Ball) creates our pace for us", Walton said. He's now the Los Angeles Lakers beat writer for Sports Out West.

The Los Angeles Lakers grabbed their third straight win on Thursday night for the first time this season in a 93-81 win over the San Antonio Spurs.
