Minnesota United set to pick fifth in Friday's MLS SuperDraft

LAFC selected Portuguese defender Joao Mountinho out of Akron with the first overall pick, then sent $200,000 to DC United for the third selection, where the expansion side took defender Tristan Blackmon from the University of the Pacific. Wisconsin forward Chris Mueller was selected two choices later as the No. 6 overall pick by Orlando City SC. Minnesota United FC chose forward Mason Toye of IN next as the No. 7 overall selection. Rounds one and two will take place Friday in Philadelphia, while rounds three and four will be conducted via conference call on January 21.

Leading the way was MI forward Francis Atuahene, who was chosen by FC Dallas in the first round as the No. 4 overall pick.

The Portland Timbers now hold the No. 61, 63, 64 and 87 overall picks in the draft.
