Apple to Cancel iPhone X Model Due to Disappointing Sales

Apple Inc. Might Be Planning to Kill the iPhone X Later in 2018

More action on the iPhone X would eat up sales of the newest models in 2018, said Kuo.

For one thing, "the Apple model pie is further divided", with eight models up for grabs, and not five, as the year before, not to mention the much higher price and late launch of the X, both of which played their part in this apparent popularity decline of new iPhones.

According to a recent report by KGI Securities analyst Ming Chi Kuo, Apple will be launching a 6.1 inch LCD display version of their new iPhone this year.

Apple released the iPhone X just last fall - a $999 model that pushed out Face ID, an OLED screen, dual cameras and an A11 chip. The iPhone maker reported $2.07 EPS for the quarter, beating the Zacks' consensus estimate of $1.87 by $0.20.

This one might have a more affordable price than the iPhone X: it could cost somewhere between $650 to $750.

The smaller variant, however, is speculated to have an LCD panel while the "iPhone X Plus" will sport an OLED display.

"Tougher ASP [average selling price] comps and the lack of a volume "supercycle" with the iPhone X will leave it hard to build conviction in future cycles", Cordwell wrote.
