African U.N. envoys suggested on Thursday that U.S. President Donald Trump meet with African leaders in Ethiopia this month after he was reported to have described some immigrants from Africa and Haiti as coming from "shithole" countries.
This drama would be more entertaining were it not for the 800,000 immigrants whose fate under the protections of President Barack Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program hangs in the balance.
In a statement about the president's comments posted to her Twitter account, Rep. Mia Love (R-Utah), the only Republican serving in the U.S. House of Representatives of Haitian descent, said that his "behavior is unacceptable from the leader of our nation".
We do not know who originally leaked the president's comment, though only Democrats benefit politically from embarrassing Trump in this way.
"I am stunned that this is their defense", he told WBEZ.
