Wenger admitted last week that Arsenal can not compete financially with either United or Manchester City amid suggestions Sanchez had signed a £500,000-a-week deal at Old Trafford.

With first pictures of Sanchez in his new colours were leaked, the Manchester Evening News reports Sanchez HAS completed his medical, and been involved in his unveiling photo shoot, snapped by official Manchester United club photographers.

Neither side revealed either financial details of the swap or the duration of contracts each player have signed, although Arsenal described Mkhitaryan's deal as "a long-term contract".

"When a player of that ability comes along, I think you got to be in the market for him", Irwin, who played over 500 games for United during 12 trophy-laden seasons, told Reuters.

Should Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho opt to stick with his current formation following the signing of Sanchez, one of Marcus Rashford or Anthony Martial looks set to suffer.

"He's a player who knows the Premier League, his goal record. he's an experienced worldwide".

Ex-Manchester United and Stoke defender Danny Higginbotham: "He's that match-winner".

"I think everybody is giving everything they can and I think we're going to be successful".

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger confirmed Sanchez's sale was close to completion following his team's 4-1 victory over Crystal Palace.

But McClaren believes United have struck a major blow by landing Sanchez, who has scored 80 goals in 166 appearances at Arsenal.

The Portuguese said: "Alexis is one of the best attacking players in the world and he will complete our very young and talented group of attacking players".

Mkhitaryan joined United for around £30 million in 2016 after three years at Borussia Dortmund.

"I always said as a kid that I'd like to play for United and I once spoke to Sir Alex Ferguson about it".

He will also receive £7.5m a year for four years as a signing-on fee.

"I remember today, a conversation I had with Henry, a historic Arsenal player, who changed club for the same reason and today is my turn", he added.

"The Enviable Gold of Alexis" headlined La Tercera, trumpeting that the 29-year-old "has become the best paid Chilean player in history, with the highest salary in the Premier League and the fourth highest in the world". Arsenal's aim all along was to solidify a replacement pre-sale, and BBC have reported that Henrikh Mkhitaryan has agreed personal terms.
