A strong storm system will bring a band of moderate to heavy snow across a portion of southern Minnesota Sunday night, spreading east through Monday. The Winter Weather Advisory for La Pine, Sunriver and the Cascades will lift around 10 tonight. The counties placed under the winter storm warning in Wisconsin include St. Croix, Pierce, Dunn, Pepin and Chippewa counties. They are set to expire later this morning or early afternoon, as the storm moves out. For the most part the snow that's falling isn't touching and sticking to the surface. Most locations in central Kansas will see 1 to 2 inches of snowfall, with the highest amounts north of Interstate 70. Travel may be impossible at times Sunday night into Monday night with winds gusting to 35 to 40 miles per hour or more at times.
Sunday night: Rain likely, possibly mixed with freezing rain before 3 a.m., then snow likely, possibly mixed with sleet between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m., then snow likely after 4 a.m. "But, again, a storm track shift of only 25 miles will change that drastically".
The Weather Service says travel will be hard to impossible Sunday night and Monday, including for the morning commute.
